Rochester Hills Government Youth Council (RHGYC)
The Rochester Hills City Council has established the Rochester Hills Government Youth Council (RHGYC) to promote youth involvement in local government through active participation and the mutual exchange of ideas and experience. There are 15 positions on the youth council, which include representatives from each City Council district (1, 2, 3 and 4). Youth members serve one-year terms with the opportunity for reappointment and terms run concurrent with the school year, September 1 through August 31.

Selection Process
To be eligible for consideration for the Rochester Hills Government Youth Council, you must 
  • Be a freshman, sophomore, junior or senior in high school. 
  • Reside in the City of Rochester Hills. 
  • Submit the appropriate application packet.
How to Apply

  • Profile Information
    Name, address, email address, telephone number, birth date, age, school name, grade, graduation date and parent / guardian information.
  • Essay Questions
    Write a short essay on a separate piece of paper responding to five application questions. Your response should be 500 words or less.
  • Two Letters of Recommendation
    Include two letters of recommendation from adults who know you at school and your activities out of school.
  • Interest Statement
    Be sure to read and sign the Interest Statement and have your Parent or Legal Guardian sign the application document.

Responsibilities as a Youth Representative 

  • Attend and actively participate at a City Council monthly meeting
  • Attend City Council Technical Review Committees on an as-needed basis
  • Participate in the completion of various projects chosen by the Youth Council
  • Serve as youth ambassadors for the City of Rochester Hills
  • Participate in community engagement and volunteer opportunities with your peers.

In addition to service on the Youth Council, the Rochester Hills City Council has established youth representative positions on each of the following committees:

Youth Council members are required to attend these committee meetings, scheduled on an as-needed basis.
