How to Reserve a Shelter

Reservations can be made for the current calendar year only, beginning in January. Call the Parks Department at 248.656.4673 Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm to make a reservation. Always call to confirm that your requested reservation date is available prior to sending in your signed Shelter Reservation Form and payment. Shelter Availability

Shelters are available for rent during weekends May through October. Tents are available for rent weekends from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day. Weekday shelter and tent reservations can be made from May through October when summer groups/camps are not using the facilities or after 4 pm at Spencer Park and after 6 pm at Bloomer Park when day camps end.  Weekday shelter reservations must be approved by the Park Ranger to ensure adequate staffing.  There is no discounted fee for partial-day rentals.

Reservation Fees
Shelter reservation fees vary by shelter and do not include a motor vehicle entry fee. View the Park Fee Schedule for current rates. Fees are not discounted for partial day usage.

Bloomer Park Shelters
Hilltop Shelter
The Hilltop Shelter is a 50' x 30' open-air facility with an approximate capacity of 80 people. Features of the shelter include a fireplace, electrical outlet, public restrooms, eight 6-foot picnic tables (or equivalent), and a charcoal grill. Nearby you will find a play structure, picnic tables, and a volleyball net. Available for rent May through October. 

Pine Grove Shelter
The Pine Grove Shelter is a 50' x 30' open-air facility with an approximate capacity of 80 people. Features of the shelter include a fireplace, electrical outlet, public restrooms, eight 6-foot picnic tables (or equivalent), and a charcoal grill. Nearby you will find a play structure and picnic tables. Available for rent May through October. 

Stone Shelter
The Stone Shelter is a 60' x 30' open-air facility with an approximate capacity of 150 people. Amenities include hot water & sinks, six 8-foot banquet tables plus 24 chairs, eight 6-foot picnic tables (or equivalent), fireplace, electrical outlets, and a charcoal grill. Nearby you will find a play structure and a drinking fountain. Please note that the attached public bathrooms and patio overlook open to the general public. Available for rent May through October.

Tent at Bloomer Park
The Tent at Bloomer Park is a 20' x 30' tent without walls with an approximate capacity of 50 people. The tent has eight 6-foot picnic tables (or equivalent) and is located between the parking lot and play structure next to brick restroom facility. Please Note, there is no electricity in the tent and extension cords and generators are not permitted. Available for rent Memorial Day through Labor Day weekends.

Spencer Park Shelters
Boathouse Shelter
The Boathouse Shelter is a 32' x 30' open-air facility that can hold approximately 60 - 75 people. Features of the shelter include a fireplace, electrical outlets, public restrooms, seven 8-foot cafeteria tables , and a charcoal grill. It is located near a play structure and picnic tables that may not be brought into the shelter. The beach is open the Saturday before Memorial Day through Labor Day.

Blue Gill Tent
The Blue Gill tent is a 20' x 30' tent without walls that hold approximately  50 people. It is located near the playground and features a cement floor and eight 6-foot picnic tables (or equivalent). Nearby you will find a concession stand, drinking fountain, and restrooms.  Available two weekends prior to Memorial Weekend through the second weekend in October.

Perch Tent
The Perch Tent is a 20' x 30' tent without walls that hold approximately  50 people. It is located between the parking lot and beach area and features a cement floor and eight 6-foot picnic tables (or equivalent). Nearby you will find a concession stand, drinking fountain, and restrooms. Please note, there is no electricity and extension cords or generators are not permitted. Available two weekends prior to Memorial Weekend through the second weekend in October.

Please Note:
The guarded beach, boat rentals, and concession stand are open only from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.


Regulations
Reservation regulations include:
  • Shelters and tents must be vacated one hour prior to park closing time.
  • Shelter restrooms are open to the general public and must remain accessible.
  • Alcoholic beverages are strictly prohibited within all city owned parks.
  • Shelters that are not reserved are available to be shared by all park visitors and cannot be held on a first come, first served basis for any group.
  • Caterers and rental companies, walk-a-thons and race events must supply a copy of their insurance. View the Insurance Instructions and Sample Certificate of Liability Insurance document for more details.
Special Arrangements
Special arrangements must be pre-approved by the park ranger one month prior, and any insurance requirements must be met 14 days prior to the reservation date. Special arrangements include but are not limited to:

  • Caterers cooking / serving on site
  • Dunk tanks
  • Inflated rides
  • Walk-a-thons
