The City of Rochester Hills owns and operates the Van Hoosen Jones-Stoney Creek Cemetery located at Tienken and Sheldon roads. It is open daily from 8:00 am until dusk.

The city also owns two historical cemeteries: Brewster Cemetery on Brewster Road and Old Stoney Creek Cemetery on Letica Drive in the City of Rochester. There are no lot sales for these cemeteries.

Details
The cemetery was donated to Avon Township by the late Dr. Sara Van Hoosen Jones in 1956. It is comprised of 16.8 acres of rolling terrain. It contains 11,200 burial plots, each with two spaces; an in-ground cremation section; a columbarium containing 50 niches; and a scattering garden is also available. The cemetery features a chapel that provides shelter from the elements and comfort for families.


Purchasing Lots
Cemetery lots may be purchased by residents or nonresidents. View the fee schedule for cemetery lots, columbarium and the scattering garden to learn more about purchasing a lot. Lot sales can be arranged with Cemetery Sexton Calvin Leach. The purchase of monuments or markers is also available through the cemetery sexton.

Grave Decorations

The cemetery is operated for the benefit of the community; please assist us by adhering to the following:

  • No artificial decorations, such as statues, glass and plastic objects, cans, toys, vigil lights, candles, balloons, pinwheels, tripods, trellises, shepherd’s hooks, concrete or wooden benches, vine arches, crockery, fruit jars, wood head boards, iron / metal markers, crosses, wind chimes, etc.
  • No grave blankets are allowed
  • No trees, shrubs or rose bushes are permitted

Making a Contribution
Contributions to the cemetery for beautification may be made through the Community Foundation of Greater Rochester. Contact the foundation at 248-608-2804.

Delivery Address
To make a contribution in-person, visit the foundation office at 127 West University Drive. It is located on the corner of Walnut and University.

Restrictions
