Auburn Road Project
Project Background
In early 2017, the City of Rochester Hills adopted the Auburn Road Corridor Plan, which provides recommendations for the 6-mile corridor of Auburn Road through the City, with a particular focus on the Brooklands neighborhood, between Culbertson Avenue and Dequindre Road. 

Building upon the study recommendations, the City moved forward to design a project to transform Auburn Road between Culbertson Avenue and Hessel Avenue. The project involves complete reconstruction of Auburn Road, the addition of center median and two roundabouts, on-street parking, improved pedestrian facilities, sidewalks, streetscape enhancements, landscaping, and lighting. A second project is also underway to improve the parallel alleyways north and south of Auburn Road and construct additional public parking lots to support the corridor. [Detour map]

A third project is expected to begin later this year to add branding and placemaking along this portion of Auburn Road. To do this the City desires to implement several additional features within the project corridor including gateway and median elements to be installed within the roadway median and center of the proposed roundabouts, as well as the development of a plaza, splash pad, and restroom building adjacent to the new streetscape as illustrated in the images below.
