What is GIS (Geographic Information Systems)
A GIS (Geographic Information System) is a computer software tool used to display multiple layers of information about a geographic location. Lines, points and areas are used to display layers. Lines can represent features such as roads, points can represent features such as fire hydrants, and areas can represent features such as parcels. GIS technology provides an efficient means for us to organize information about our city and allows us a method to visually display that information for internal staff use and to benefit our residents and businesses.
Our GIS is part of the Management Information Systems Department. Rochester Hills now has a policy in place to provide map products and digital data from our GIS. Standard maps and data have already been created and are available for distribution. Requests can also be made for specialized maps and data. Please see the fee schedule listed below.
