Mission Statement

The mission of Management Information Systems to provide an efficient and reliable computing environment to our customers. This is accomplished by researching new technologies/advancements and a proactive schedule of technology upgrades and staff training.

Management Information Systems are responsible for the purchase and maintenance of over 560 computer devices, more than 100 computer software applications and in excess of 200 users.  The hardware installed and maintained includes 16 servers, 231 desktop and laptop computers, 200 monitors, 65 printing devices, and more than 50 other individual network devices.  The software applications administered consist of large enterprise financials, legislative tracking, utility billing, tax, assessing and permitting, as well as many GIS applications. Also included are network operation applications such as the core network itself, office productivity, groupware (email & scheduling) and paging.  Many other smaller applications used by individuals or small groups are also managed.  Our user base includes more than 200 network users who are located in city hall and eight other locations around the city.  Necessary user training for these users is provided at a training facility within city hall.  MIS also provides daily help desk support in the use of equipment and software.  All of this is provided with an emphasis on cost effective use of technology in order to maintain a computing environment that promotes an efficient and capable city staff.

GIS

A GIS (Geographic Information System) is a computer software tool used to display multiple layers of information about a geographic location.  Lines,  points and areas are used to display layers. Lines can represent features such as roads, points can represent features such as fire hydrants, and areas can represent features such as parcels. GIS technology provides an efficient means for us to organize information about our city and allows us a method to visually display that information for internal staff use and to benefit our residents and businesses.  For available GIS maps, go to the reference desk section of the website or click here to go there now.
