The City of Rochester Hills Fire Department provides fire and EMS services to the residents, visitors, and businesses of our community.  In addition to these two services, public safety programs, building safety inspections, and emergency communications are also provided.

The department is divided into four divisions: the Communications Division, EMS Division, Fire Suppression Division and the Fire Prevention Division.  We are a combination department which means that we have full-time Firefighter/Paramedics (24) and Paid-on-Call Firefighters/EMTs (75) who provide emergency response.  The full-time personnel are on duty 24/7.  The Paid-on-Call personnel respond to a station for necessary equipment then to the scene of an emergency.  Other employees of the Department include a Fire Chief, Deputy Chief, Fire Marshal, 4 Fire Prevention Inspectors, Office Coordinator, 2 Secretaries, a Public Education Specialist, EMS and Training Coordinators, Supervisor of Communications, Communications Coordinator and 9 Dispatchers.

The Fire Department has five fire stations with one in the center of the city (Headquarters) and four located in the area of each corner of the city.  Our department has a mutual aid agreement with all bordering communities.  We are also part of a North Oakland Group which consists of 17 departments.  This group has teams which specialize in trench collapse, confined space, building collapse, hazardous materials and incident management. The members of our department are all professionally trained and meet or exceed all minimum training requirements to perform various functions of emergencies from medical emergencies to fires.  The entire department is committed to providing our residents with the highest level of service available.

As Fire Chief, I am continually researching ways our services can be improved for the health and safety of our residents, businesses, visitors and my staff, while maintaining the department budget.

I hope this information has been helpful to you in understanding the services your fire department provides.  I can assure you that each resident, family member, visitor and business is well protected by a highly professional and dedicated staff.  If you would like more information please feel free to contact me at 248-656-4720 or e-mail me at fire@rochesterhills.org.

Sincerely,

Ronald D. Crowell
Fire Chief
