The Fire Department responded to 4,530 calls for service in 2006. Of those calls, 65% were EMS related. In 2002, the Department started providing our own EMS transport service due to the significant reduction in response time over that being provided by private EMS. The Fire Department operates two advanced life support pumpers and one squad. These vehicles are staffed with a minimum of two Firefighter/Paramedics who work 24-hour shifts. The Paramedics have the ability to administer critical life saving medications on scene or enroute to the hospital. We also have five ambulances, one staffed during the day with two Basic EMTs from the Fire Department. If we transport you to the hospital, you or your insurance company will receive a bill for the transport. The money our Department receives offsets the cost to provide the best possible EMS service available for the safety and welfare of our residents, businesses, and visitors. In the event all our EMS units are committed to emergencies, we have agreements with neighboring Fire Departments to provide coverage for our community. At no time should our community be without EMS coverage just minutes away.
