I have just purchased a home and understand I need to file some forms with the City. What forms do I need to file and where can I obtain the forms?
The transfer of property typically requires the filing of a Homeowners Principal Residence Exemption Affidavit and a Property Transfer Affidavit with the local assessing office. A closing agent is required to provide these forms at the property closing. If you did not use a closing agent, the forms can be obtained from the Assessing Department in City Hall or click here for the Homestead Affidavit and click here for the Property Transfer Affidavit.

This information can be obtained by contacting Rochester Hills City Hall - Assessing Department at (248) 656-4605 or click here to go to the Property Tax Lookup. If you are a new owner, you are required to file a Homeowners Principal Residence Exemption Affidavit with the Assessors Office to obtain the exemption. I am adding an addition and deck to my home. How much additional property tax will I have to pay?
The additional property tax will be based upon the added market value of the improvements. The additional assessed value and taxable value increase will be half of the added market value. The additional taxable value times the millage rate will calculate the tax increase due to the improvements. Contact the Assessing Department at (248) 656-4605 and we can assist you in this estimate and calculation.
How do I determine whether my property can be split into two or more building sites?
Land divisions are by ordinance subject to review by the City and the Assessing Department coordinates the review process. The Assessing Department can assist you with any questions regarding the Land Division process and provide the required Land Division Application.

(($250,000 market value x = 125,000 times the most recent Summer and Winter Rochester School District Homestead Millages combined, .0322428 (32.2428 Mills) = $4,030.35.
