Although the City of Rochester Hills does not administer recreation programs, a wide variety of programs are provided by other local agencies and organizations. The largest single public provider of recreation programs and activities for residents of the City of Rochester and the City of Rochester Hills is the Rochester-Avon Recreation Authority (RARA).

The Rochester-Avon Recreation Authority is a public corporation formed to enhance personal enrichment and to provide for the community's leisure needs of principally the residents of the City of Rochester, the City of Rochester Hills, and those within the jurisdiction of Rochester Community Schools and portions of Avondale Community Schools. The activities and services provided by the Rochester-Avon Recreation Authority include recreational and enrichment activities for all ages, youth and adult sports programs (both competitive and non-competitive), and activities for special populations.

Swimming lessons, arts and crafts, fitness and sports, home and garden, leisure learning. languages, music, youth activities, and children's programs are offered through Rochester Community Schools.
Other Recreation Program Providers
There are a number of other program providers in the Rochester Hills area, including the YMCA, the Paint Creek Center for the Arts, and the Older Persons Commission. A brief description of these providers is given below:

The Older Persons Commission is an inter-municipal organization which provides residents of Rochester Hills, Rochester, and Oakland Charter Township with leisure travel programs for those age 50+; sports programs for those age 55+; and recreation and other programming for those age 60+.

The North Oakland County YMCA serves over 7,000 people. Programs include: Youth sport league in outdoor soccer, indoor soccer, basketball, tee-ball, baseball, and in-line hockey. Toddler classes in soccer, basketball and tee-ball. Youth swim lessons, basic water safety training and lifeguard certification courses. Leaders club, Youth in Government, summer day camps, summer sport camps, and parent/child (Indian Guides & Princess) programs.

The Paint Creek Center for the Arts is a non-profit community art center housed in historic Avon Township Hall in downtown Rochester and dedicated to promoting the fine arts and artistic excellence. Since its founding in 1982, PCCA has enriched the quality of life of thousands of tri-county residents through art education, exhibitions, community outreach, and art appreciation lectures and tours.

The Rochester Hills Public Library provides material and services to fulfill the educational, informational, recreational, and cultural needs of the community. In addition, the Library provides special programs for children including after school special events, paperback book distributions, storytime, and author appearances. Adult programs include discussion groups, Internet classes, and a variety of workshops. Special outreach programs include homebound service, bedside reading, book cart service, and mini-branch library for the Older Persons Commission center and senior residences.

Rochester Community House is a non-profit organization that provides a unique gathering place for family and friends to meet and enjoy educational, recreational, and cultural activities.
Dinosaur Hill Nature Preserve - 248-656-0999

Dinosaur Hill Nature Preserve is a private non-profit organization that provides environmental education and recreational activities for area residents and visitors. The preserve consists of sixteen (16) acres of woodlands, stream, and meadow and an interpretive building. It is open to the public from dawn until dusk at no cost and is conveniently located for walkers, bicyclists, and skiers. Organized activities include nature classes, group tours, day camps, and social gatherings. The programs are financed through memberships, contributions, fees, and fund-raising. The preserve is located along the Paint Creek Trail.
Rochester Youth Soccer League - 248-650-0113 Website
Competitive soccer teams organized under the Rochester Youth Soccer League provide recreation opportunities for more than 1,200 young people between the ages of eight to nineteen (8-19). Approximately one hundred thirty (130) teams are sponsored each year, and games are scheduled in two (2) seasons, spring and fall. The Rochester Youth Soccer League presently uses fields at Borden Park and other locations in the City of Rochester Hills.

The Rochester Hills Little League, a member of National Little League Associations, organizes baseball teams for boys and girls age seven to fifteen (7-15). An average of forty-six (46) teams are scheduled from March to July. The Rochester Hills Little League currently programs games at ten (10) fields in the City of Rochester Hills.
Others
A number of other groups and organizations provide recreation and cultural activities for area residents. Among these are the Rochester Men's Garden Club, Woman's National Farm and Garden Club (Rochester Branch), Girl Scouts of North Oakland County, Boy Scouts of America, Heart of the Hills 4-H Club, Campfire Girls of North Oakland, Avon Players, Rochester Symphony Guild and Orchestra, North Oakland Baseball Federation (Website), and Redskins Football (Website).
