Local Parks

City of Rochester Parks

The City of Rochester operates seven parks and a nature preserve that are located in close proximity to the Rochester Hills area.  These parks and nature preserve contain a total of approximately 84 acres of land, another 21 acres of land are designed for future parkland.  These parks range in size from the 34-acre Rochester Municipal Park, which has a pond, picnic area, and tennis courts, to the 1.7-acre Elizabeth Park, which has a picnic area and tot lot.

Regional Parks

The State Department of Natural Resources, Oakland County, and the Huron-Clinton Metropolitan Authority own and operate several regional parks in the Oakland and Macomb area.  Such parks are generally 200 acres or more in area and include large tracts of open space.  They are intended for use by residents of several communities.  The regional parks most convenient to Rochester Hills area residents are located north and east of the city.  Daily or annual permits must be purchased to gain access to these facilities.  There is an abundance of regional parkland within a half-hour drive of Rochester Hills.

Oakland County Parks

The Oakland County Park system consists of nine parks covering more than 3,700 acres of land.  These parks provide year-round recreational opportunities including camping, boating, swimming, fishing, golf, picnicking, nature study, mobile recreation, and winter sports.  Several Oakland County Park facilities are located near Rochester Hills.

Huron-Clinton Metroparks

The Huron-Clinton Metropolitan Authority is a five-county regional park agency established in 1940.  The Authority is supported in part by a five-county tax levy and user fees.  Stoney Creek Metropark is the nearest Huron-Clinton park to Rochester Hills.

State Parks and Recreation Areas

The State Department of Natural Resources operates several regional parks in the Oakland and Macomb County area.  Such parks are generally 200 acres or more in area and include large tracts of open space.  They are intended for use by residents of several communities.  Bald Mountain and Pontiac Lake State Recreation Areas are close to Rochester Hills.
