The Hilltop Shelter with a fireplace, picnic tables, and heated restrooms is used as a warming area for sledders.
Velodrome
Michigan's only velodrome for bicycle riding and racing opened in 2002. The track is an open-air, 1/8th mile wooden oval with 13-degree straight-aways and 44-degree banked turns. Racing bicyclists can reach speeds up to 42 mph. Tiered grassy seating gives spectators a close view of the track. Racing takes place Friday nights at 7 p.m.
The velodrome was designed by Olympic Velodrome designer Dale Hughes, paid for by donations, and built by volunteers. It is under the operation of the Mike Walden Velodrome Fund, a non-profit organization.
Special bicycles are required on the track and can be rented on site with FREE bike usage for individuals 18 and under. An initial training session must be completed before being allowed on the track. For more information on hours of operation, fees, bicycle rentals, training, and racing times, go to Velodrome.
