The Rochester Hills Museum at Van Hoosen Farm is available for indoor and outdoor weddings. Located in historic Stony Creek Village, the 1840 Van Hoosen Farmhouse was home to five generations of the Taylor and Van Hoosen families and has been carefully preserved and furnished with antiques belonging to the families.

Wedding Ceremony

Indoor wedding ceremonies are held in the classic library of the 1840 Van Hoosen Farmhouse.  This large room can seat 70 guests and features a cathedral-ceiling, hand-hewn beams, antique rugs, and black walnut floors.

Outdoor wedding ceremonies are held in the 18' garden gazebo located in a maple and walnut grove along tranquil Stony Creek.   Carefully maintained herb and perennial gardens are located throughout the property and make a wonderful backdrop for wedding photographs.

A private dressing room located upstairs in the 1840 Van Hoosen Farmhouse is available to the bride and bridesmaids prior to indoor and outdoor wedding ceremonies.

Wedding Ceremony FeesWedding Grounds

Our wedding fee is $600 for residents of Rochester Hills and $700 for non-residents which provides you with 3 hours use of the Van Hoosen Farmhouse and grounds including rehearsal, setup, the ceremony, and time for your photographer. Additional time is available at the rate of $200 per hour.  The Museum requires a $250 security deposit to reserve your wedding date and time, which is refundable up to 9 months before the ceremony.

Receptions

Please contact a Museum staff member regarding your reception location on our grounds to discuss fees and logistics.

Outdoor events are typically held on a site situated along Stoney Creek on the Dairy Barn side of the property. This location provides easy vehicle access for set up. The adjacent 1927 Van Hoosen Dairy Barn will be open for your guests during your event. Several 20' x 30' tents are available to rent.Advance notice for Museum tent rentals is required.

Planning Your Wedding

With the option of holding your wedding ceremony indoors or out, the Rochester Hills Museum at Van Hoosen Farm is the ideal location for your wedding.

Times Available

Wedding times are available Tuesday through Saturday.  Morning weddings may start as early 9:00 am and end as late as 12:30 pm.  Afternoon and evening weddings may start as early as 5:00 pm and must be completed by 9:00 pm.  Due to our regular hours of operation, weddings are not available Wednesdays through Saturdays between 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm or on Sundays.

Rehearsal

We encourage you to schedule a rehearsal that includes our staff and your minister and wedding party.  Please consider how you want your wedding arranged including your chair placement, aisle location, musician and photographer location, whether or not you desire a receiving line, etc.  Rehearsals are scheduled six weeks in advance and must be completed by 6:00 pm.

Van Hoosen Farmhouse LibraryCapacity

While seating outdoors is limitless, the interior wedding capacity of the Van Hoosen Farmhouse is limited to 70 people.

Museum Furnishings

Items provided for use as part of your contract include 100 white garden chairs and up to four small round tables.  Museum staff will set up both Museum and other rental chairs.  The Van Hoosen Farmhouse furnishings, however, are very fragile and may not be handled, used, or moved except by Museum staff.

Dressing

A dressing room is available for the bride.  However to protect the historic wall coverings and furnishings in the 1840 Van Hoosen Farmhouse, all makeup, hair sprays, perfumes, etc. must be applied prior to arrival.  Last minute touch ups are allowed in public restrooms only.  Blow dryers and curling irons are not permitted.

Decorations

Please contact the Museum to discuss your decorating plans.  No crepe paper, staples, nails, thumbtacks, etc. can be used to decorate the gazebo or indoors.  Flowers and other decorations may be tied on with ribbons or twist ties.  The Museum does not allow the throwing of rice, Panachebirdseed, confetti, rose petals or the releasing of balloons for indoor or outdoor ceremonies.

Music

Music options are available through Panache Entertainment, our preferred musicians. Please visit their website  to watch videos and get ideas for ceremony music, DJs, and bands.

Also, electricity is available in the Van Hoosen Farmhouse and at the gazebo for your musical needs.  A piano is available indoors for an additional charge of $50.  Arrangements must be made in advance for its use.

Candles

Candles are prohibited indoors with the exception of a unity candle, which you must provide.  The candles in the Van House Farmhouse candelabra may not be lit.

Runners

Due to the soft ground outdoors, runners will require a solid backing.  Runners are prohibited indoors.

Guests

Bridal party and guests may arrive one hour before the ceremony.  Please encourage out-of-town guests to visit Rochester's historic downtown area if they arrive early.

Food/Beverage/Smoking

Due to the age and nature of the Museum and grounds, smoking is prohibited on Museum property.  Pets, food, and beverages are not permitted indoors.  Communion arrangements (food and beverages) must be approved by Museum staff.
ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES ARE PROHIBITED ON ALL CITY GROUNDS.

Weather

The final location for your ceremony must be made an hour and a half beforehand to allow for set up.
