Tree Maintenance

For purposes of street tree maintenance (trimming and removals), the Forestry Division has sectioned the city into five tree management districts. Tree maintenance work is focused in one district each year, resulting in a five-year maintenance cycle. Most of the maintenance work is scheduled during the winter months (December through March). The division also responds to requests from residents for tree trimming/maintenance on any trees affecting city road right-of-way.
The Forestry Division maintains a database which records maintenance requirements and histories for all trees growing on city road right-of-way. Trees growing on (or affecting) city right-of-way are trimmed as necessary to facilitate vehicle passage and traffic safety. Trees having structural defects which pose a significant hazard to city streets or walkways are trimmed or removed as necessary to eliminate the hazard. Vegetation adjacent to city-maintained sidewalks and pathways is also trimmed for user safety.
