Department Activity

The Rochester Hills Fire Department has been presented with a Life Safety Achievement Award for the year of 2007 by the Residential Fire Safety Institute (RFSI). For 15 years, the Life Safety Achievement Award has recognized the local fire prevention activities that contribute to reducing the number of lives lost in residential fires. There were zero fire deaths in structures during that year.
Although residential fires in the U.S. account for only 20 percent of all fires, they result in 80 percent of all fire deaths. The RFSI is committed to reducing that number. A total of 745 fire departments received the 2007 Life Safety Achievement Award. Click here to visit the RFSI website.
Experience tells us that fire prevention activity and public education can significantly reduce life and property loss from residential fires. Prevention and education are very cost effective compared to the traditional approach of relying on fire suppression.

The Rochester Hills Fire Department held its annual Fire Prevention Week activities October 3rd and 5th. On October 3rd the department held an Apparatus Display at Meijer from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
This event had fire vehicles from Rochester Hills, Auburn Hills, Utica, Rochester, Oakland Township, and Troy with a special appearance by the U of M Survival Flight Helicopter. The event gave the public a chance to see various types of Fire and EMS vehicles from the communities along with talking to the Fire and EMS personnel about the services provided. There was also a Jaws of Life demonstration so residents could see what happens when they are involved in a motor vehicle crash and pinned inside the vehicle. Rochester Hills Fire Chief Ron Crowell would like to thank all the communities and citizens who participated in the event.
On October 5th each of the five Rochester Hills Fire Stations held an Open House from noon to 4:00 pm. The station members had a chance to show the residents their local fire station, vehicles and equipment. Some of the attractions were Jaws of Life demonstrations, Fire Extinguisher training, Aerial Bucket Rides in the City's 102' Aerial Tower and much more. The event was well attended by people who also enjoyed hot dogs, cider and donuts. Many thanks go out to the members of the Rochester Hills Fire Department and a special thanks to Nancy Butty, our fire department Public Education Specialist who organized all of these events.
