NEW ENERGY CODE

On March 9th, 2011, the State of Michigan enacted the 2009 Michigan Uniform Energy Code (2009 MUEC). This Code update requires new homes and additions to homes to meet many new design requirements far above the previous Code.

Effective March 9, 2011, Building Contractors and Homeowners acting as their own Building Contractors, will be required to provide two completed sets of the City of Rochester Hills Energy Code Worksheet along with construction plans and a Building Permit Application.

The 2009 Michigan Energy Code requires a residential project to comply with Mandatory energy design requirements, and then select one of three methods to show the design also meets additional Energy Code requirements.

Applicants are encouraged to contact the Building Department at (248) 656-4615 if they have questions about completing the Energy Code Worksheet or about the 2009 Michigan Uniform Energy Code.
