Mission Statement

"Our mission is to effectively administer the State of Michigan construction codes and local ordinances to ensure public health, safety, and welfare; to provide professional services to our customers that will encourage the selection of Rochester Hills as the preferred location to live, work, and invest; while striving to preserve and promote the quality of life in our community."

Duties and Responsibilities

The primary objective of the Building Department is to safeguard the health, safety and welfare of the citizens and businesses of Rochester Hills. In this effort the department provides:

• Plan review: construction (residential and commercial), grade and ordinance (residential)
• Permits and Inspections: building, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, fire suppression, safety, liquor license and grade
• Construction Board of Appeals
• Hazardous and dangerous buildings hearings
• Rubbish haulers registration
• Ordinance Compliance Division
• Issuance of sign permits
• Noxious weed and grass control
• Street address assignments
